A quick overview of Santorini’s big 3: Fira, Imerovigli and Oia

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

I knew nothing about Santorini and I didn’t know where to start – it felt daunting. When I was researching, 3 areas would usually pop up: Fira, Imerovigli and Oia. When choosing your accommodations, I would suggest picking your area first.

All 3 places have a good selection of establishments, stores, and restaurants in varying prizes while offering the famous sunset view. What’s the difference between the 3?

Fira
Fira is a popular area to stay at because out of the 3, it is the most affordable part. You’ll find Tin’s favorite dessert place Mano’s here. We also had our cheapest meal at Fira at Nick's Grill. Make sure to have lunch or dinner at Taverna Elia for authentic Greek food. We loved the restaurant so much we ate there twice.

It was difficult to choose a few pieces to try. Mano’s Patisserie was recommended to us by several people and every bite was worth it.

The cable car system to reach the dock is located at Fira which is why a lot of tourists love the area.

€4
It’s a long way down! You can walk it or ride a donkey but we chose the cable car.

Imerovigli
What I like about Imerovigli is it’s the least crowded of the 3. In terms of prices, it’s also in between Fira and Oia. There is a calmer vibe here. It is mandatory to try Mezzo if you’re in Santorini. We had the most charming host and one heck of a deliriously delicious meal. Tin and I spent our birthday dinner celebration here – it was worth the splurge and made our birthdays feel extra special.

Oia

If you have a lot of dough to spare, Oia is the spot for you. It is the most expensive area of the 3 and houses the most luxe accommodations. People flock here for the pricier establishments and for sunset. People say it has the best spot to witness Santorini’s sunset but you should see for yourselves. The stunning Amoudi Bay, which will have its own blog post, is stunning. Scenes from "Mamma Mia" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" were shot here. Movie fan girl mode, on!

Oia is home to the famed Atlantis Bookstore.
