A wonderland for foodies: Tyrokomia Naxou

On our first day exploring Naxos, we came across Tyrokomia Naxou. Yes, Tin and I love to eat and we couldn’t stop grinning because of all the goodies we saw inside the shop. The catch, we couldn’t take any home because of the shelf life. It pained me not to take anything home. I will shop vicariously through others who will read this post and get to shop at Tyrokomia Naxou.

Authentic Greek food at Scirocco Naxos Island

I didn’t do any research on where to have a meal on Naxos but I had my first meal in the heart of the town plaza, Scirocco. We checked out the other restaurants in the area but coupled with a growling tummy and the heat, we didn’t over think the choice. Scirocco’s menu had what we wanted – legit Greek food plus the charming and friendly server, we were sold.

Have you heard of Naxos Island?

When talk of the Greek Islands comes up, people immediately think of Santorini, Crete, Mykonos, and Ios. How in the world did I end up in Naxos then??? Our initial plan was to see Mykonos, Ios and Santorini. Ios is known for being a major party island. Tin isn’t much of a partier so we decided to find another island to hop on to. I googled for islands in between Mykonos and Santorini and Naxos won me over because of its beaches. Don’t worry; I have a beach battle post at the end of this series as well.

This was taken at the pier; can you see how clear and marvelous the water is??? That’s not even near any of the beaches we visited.

My First Attempt at Meal Prep

My cousin Nix introduced me to the concept of meal prep – one cooking session to prepare healthy meals for the week. You’ve read about my journey with vegetables and healthier eating. As you can see in the photo, the meals I prepared weren’t hardcore healthy. My goal for this exercise is to prepare meals that are healthier than my normal diet and to add vegetables to my daily intake.

Inspired to collect experiences

I’ve never been the kind of person that cared for labels. I’m not into 5 or 6 figure shoes and bags; it’s also because I can’t afford it. When I save up, it usually goes to my travel fund.

Naxos’ Hotel Blue Sky

We had 2 nights in Naxos at Hotel Blue Sky but on our first night, our double room was not available. We were informed about this upon our arrival at the hotel. The idea of moving hotels every night isn’t my favorite idea. What can we do, we didn’t have a choice.

We were given at 2 bedroom apartment at Santa Katerina Apartments which was a block away. It was a bigger but older place. I didn’t take photos anymore since. Though large, I would honestly consider it a downgrade from Hotel Blue Sky. It was much darker as well. The towels we got were on the hard side and we also had limp pillows. Also, Hotel Blue Sky was newer than Santa Katerina. In Filipino, our Hotel Blue Sky digs were more “maaliwalas”. I couldn’t find an English direct translation so this translation will have to do – brighter and happier.
