Ampon Alaga is the rescue and adoption project of PETA Asia. My friend Tin saw a feature about the organization because they were looking for volunteers to help walk the dogs. Walks are done everyday so they really do need a lot of help.

Eco bricks: Saving the planet one bottle at a time

As I mentioned in my previous post, the Philippines is the THIRD biggest producer of plastic pollution in the ocean. That is a horrifying statistic. We have to change that.

Say hello to my latest obsession. Eco bricks are plastic bottles filled with non-biodegradable material. This is a way for normal people to recycle plastic in their own homes easily.

Plastic Straw Alternatives in Manila

I did it at last. Late last year I finally bought a metal straw for myself. This is a BIG DEAL because not all plastic straws can be recycled. Feel like your trash doesn’t make a difference in the world? I was shocked to find out that our tiny country is the THIRD biggest contributor of plastic in the ocean IN THE WORLD. This is alarming! Millions of straws are used every year and dumped in the ocean and for what, 5 minutes of convenience? C’mon people, we need to be better than this. Using a metal straw is a SIMPLE way to be part of the solution.

AAI is selling Accessories with Peace

I first encountered the Asia America Initiative (AAI) when Owee and I shot Country Director Bai Rohaniza Sumndad–Usman, who is Honey to us, for a project. Since then, Owee has since been volunteering for the organization.

What is AAI? Simply put, it is an organization bent on promoting peace and awareness in conflict ridden areas of the country especially in Muslim Mindanao.

Sunday Bike Day Photo Walk for August 2012

Cause

I grew up in Mandaluyong (yeah inside) and it will always have my heart. Now a Pasig dweller, I must admit I am not an active member of my community. However I am quite happy with the environmental changes my city implemented. Pasig is one of the cities that adopted “No Plastic Fridays” which eventually led to a “No Plastics” policy. There is also an e-jeepney roaming our streets but I don’t know if it’s still active.

The latest project Pasig introduced is the “Bike, Health and Carless Day” every Sunday. A portion of F. Ortigas Junior Road is closed every Sunday for bikers from 6 AM – 6 PM in support of the city’s health program.

Lovely Items from the Correctional Institution for Women’s Livelihood Project

The first project I got this year was for the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), yes our prisons. The BuCor had an event last January 27 at the New Bilibid Prison to launch its 2022 Road Map and Stakeholders Fellowship and it was attended by the president. The event showcased BuCor’s plan for its 7 facilities all over the country.

No Plastic Fridays in McDo and Pasig

It's already the 2nd Friday of May and I just found out about this??? I was elated too see that McDonalds and Pasig City are making efforts to reduce their carbon imprint. Say hello to no plastic bag Fridays for May and June.

I'm hoping they can extend this program like in Muntinlupa's no plastic rule. I heard the manager say that they will eventually start using paper cups as well, yay!

Some customers insisted on getting plastic bags but the McDo management didn't budge. To be honest when you have a lot of orders, using a paper bag is rather difficult. If you don't want to use paper bags when taking out from McDo I suggest (1) bring your own plastic bag if yo INSIST on using plastic or (2) bring your own bag instead. Is that so hard?
