A glimpse into Porta Portese Flea Market in Rome

Thursday, June 16, 2016

Just like most women I like to shop, especially when I travel. I enjoy taking a piece of my destination home with me and I love buying pasalubong for my immediate family. Some people may find it daunting but I love the challenge. Porta Portese has been named as one of the best flea markets in Europe and I knew I just had to pass by. This is sooooo my thing.

The Porta Portese Flea Market is further from the city centre. Truth be told, we didn’t have a problem getting there but we go lost getting out of there. Chalk it up to being tourists. Getting lost is part of the adventure and on a cool September morning - I didn’t mind it especially because I was with good people.

Just like Campo de Fiori, a lot of locals shop at Porta Portese. Since it is a flea market – you will find an assortment of things here. I ended up buying a souvenir tee for my Dad who loves travel shirts. It had the softest cotton and was €5. Other stores and markets would sell it for €8 and more. You can practice your bargaining skills here.

There was something very authentic about Porta Portese which I truly appreciated. It made me feel like I was a local. Porta Portese is only open every Sunday from 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Want to see more photos? Visit this link!
