The Collective’s Calda Pizza and Mochiko Mochi

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Our Luneta Tour got us pretty famished. As our usual practice, Danix and I both wanted to try an “Only in Manila City” restaurant since we don’t visit the city often. We were all set to try the Met Café by Illustrado only to find out when we arrived that it was closed. Before going to our second option, Noriter Café, we called a few friends and checked the net for operating hours. It was also closed! The solution? Hay…just head to the Collective. Haha

The streak continued as the restaurant we were eyeing was also closed. There were only a handful of eateries open so we settled for Calda Pizza. It was my first time at this pizza and pasta joint so I didn’t have expectations.

Chicken Pasta (P175)
I thought they made a mistake and gave us the Bolognese. It’s not like any Chicken Pasta dish I’ve ever seen and it was interesting enough that I would order it again.

Carbona (P200)
We were seated right in front of a huge wall with food photos and the Carbonara didn’t look like the photo behind us.

Fungi (P305 – Family Size, 15 inches)
Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Mushroom

Granchi (P255 – Regular, 11 inches)
Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Bacon, Pepperoni, Summer Sausage, Mushrooms

We underestimated the size of the pizzas and ordered too much. Their thin and crunchy crust was a welcome surprise and received well by our group. I liked the Granchi more since the flavors mixed well together providing a protein loaded pizza. They had an extensive list of pizzas that I would love to try in the future. If this were a boxing match, the pizzas would have knocked out the pastas in the first round.

For dessert, we transferred across to Mochiko Mochi. I’m not the biggest Mochi Ice Cream fan because I have low EQ. I’ve tried it twice and on both occasions I got impatient. Haha I got the Oreo Cookies and Cream version and it was perfect; I didn’t wait for it to thaw. I still prefer good old ice cream over the mochi version but if I were to order again I would pick the more complex flavors like Chocolate Covered Potato Chips because the plain ones (vanilla, chocolate, green tea, etc) bored me.
