Foldable Gap City Flats

Thursday, June 02, 2011

I’ve been looking for good foldable flats since it’s a commuter’s secret weapon. I’ve done the research and there are a lot of brands out there. They may be fashionable and affordable but the comfort and quality suffers.

The closest that I’ve wanted is the Llamera of local brand Suelas – I included it in my Christmas Wish List for 2010 but no one gave them to me. Haha I was this close to buying when I read Jill’s review of Suelas. She found them comfy but had a short life span.

The perfect foldable shoes for me would:
1. Pretty
2. Have good soles, if it’s thin and I can feel the pavement on my feet that’s not good.
3. Comfortable – I can wear you for hours.
4. Value for Money.

One magical day, I was surprised with a gift from my friend and her Mom– a pair of blue (my fave!) patent City Flats from Gap in a pouch. (Thanks again!) My friend asked me to open the gift in front of her so that she could see my reaction. We were 2 silly giddy girls excitedly checking out these flats! Some inside info, we have a trip planned this September and foldable shoes would be a FABULOUS addition to our arsenal. Haha

The City Flats also comes in other colors and materials and are all elasticized.

How do the City Flats fair with my criteria?

1. Pretty
Oh yes it is! Blissfully in blue, it scores high in my book. The shopaholic person in me appreciates the patent material but the practical one is worried about making this “harabas” in the real world especially during travel.

2. Have good soles, if it’s thin and I can feel the pavement on my feet that’s not good.
Check out the soles of these babies, padded for support. I never felt the cobblestone-ish walkway of Eastwood.

3. Comfortable – I can wear you for hours.
The good news is my toes and heel felt ok because of the padded soles. The bad news is, the City Flats partially failed me in this department. I spent an afternoon in them and just a couple of hours of walking in them, my left ankle started to hurt a bit. I’m no expert but I think it might be for lack of support. The hurt went away when my meeting started and I was just seated. However, at the end of the day the elasticized back pinched my feet.

4. Value for Money.
From the reviews I’ve read this might be the best or the second best foldable shoes in town. I like the soles but the pinching of my feet because of the garter makes me reconsider. Perhaps if they came out with flats without the elasticized back it might be a different story.

At the end of the day, I am more than grateful for receiving these gorgeous flats. Will I buy a second pair? Probably not yet. I will give these flats another go because maybe…it just needs to be broken in. =)

Have you tried on a pair of foldable shoes that made you sing to the heavens? Let me know please!

* I was able to try another pair of Foldable Flats from SM.

  2. Wow, outfit planning for September!:-D

I have 2 suelas, the wine red and snakeskin Llanura, both very pretty and works well with everything but the soles are thin and since its cheap, di nga mahaba ang shelf life.

Now I'm using a studded foldable flats from H&M. The material is cloth so very comfy sya, with that, I mean no pinching. Pero manipis din ang sole. I'm on the look out for a good foldable shoes. The most comfy walking shoes I have right now are the Toms, I have one in sparkly shiny shimmering gold hehe. Great arch support and really well padded soles without being bulky. I hope they make a foldable version.

  4. Yong Suelas super thin kasi ang sole so can't wear it for long periods. I got the H&M sa Shanghai last September at naalala ko lang sya actually when i read this post ayayay! So I road test it yesterday for running errands till dinner, ayon the exercise called for heaps of Salonpas ointment = FAIL. Thin din ang soles:-( Ganon din ang problema ko with the Toms,di bagay sa dressier outfits haha.I want the redfoot too pero MAHALia Fuentes!

  10. Oh wait, I didn't know Anthologie had foldable shoes! I tried their neon ballet flats...comfy sya sa soles ng paa pero it hugged my ankles to much that they were uncomfy! I didnt know that was possible! Haha Iniisip ko i-try yung San Francisco muna pag napagipunan. Haha Kasi in fair, ang comfy sa paa.....
