Wednesday, December 13, 2023

When someone asks me for gift ideas, this excites me cos it gives me an opportunity to share about local brands. This is my non-negotiable when suggesting gifts for balikbayans. If you need to gift a lot of people with different interests and price points, igotchu!

🛒 Available in most SM Malls and online
If you are pressed for time Kultura Filipino is your one stop shop. It has come a long way from selling baduy souvenirs to a mix of traditional souvenirs and curated local brands. There are different price points here from affordable finds to quality investment pieces.

Kamisa by Kultura Filipino Sinigang Shirt (P349)
🛒 Available in most SM Malls and online
I instantly fell in love with this shirt when I saw it as a sinigang stan. This line also has designs that feature adobo, taho, and tuyo. The front has a small embroidered designed and the back has huge print.

When I posted this on my socials, a lot of locals wanted to get it too.

Auro Chocolates
🛒 Consigned in different places. Available online here and here.
I’m delighted that we have different local chocolate purveyors in the country. For distinctively  Filipino flavors, these 4 bars from Auro are my go-to gifts as well.

Ube Cream Liqueur (P1499)
I am not the biggest Ube person but once I tried this, I was hooked. It tastes like legit ube ice cream with booze. My balikbayan friends tried this and was floored as well. Ube has gotten big all over the world so this will surely impress.

Engkanto Beer
I’m not a beer drinker but I’ve gifted Engkanto Beer to a few friends. Assorted packs are available so that one can try more than one flavor at a time.

Simoy ng Haraya Candles (P799)
Scents transport us back to a memory or a place. Simoy ng Haraya has uniquely Filipino scents available like Benguet Market, Puto Bumbong, Panaderia, and Buko Pandan to name a few. They also release seasonal scents like Kastanyas, Krismas Tree, Mango Graham, and Noche Buena.

Common Room has been a supporter of local artists for years. You’ll definitely find something to gift here.

Something Shoplifted’s Potaka Tote (P299)
Something Shoplifted has black and white bags with sass. Personally, I want this bag. I just don’t want to explain to kids what it means. Lol Only fellow Pinoys will catch the attention of this bag overseas.

Team Manila Tusok Tote Bag (P495)
There will be a lot of people who will relate with this design.

Manileño Eco Bag (P295)
Sac People’s destination line is well designed and is up my aesthetic. I love bringing the Manila print when I travel because it can carry a lot and it’s cute. Definitely one of my go-to gifts to give.
