Inspired to reassess your clients and strategy

Sunday, March 16, 2014

When I started working right out of college, I had the “get-as-much-experience-as-you-can” philosophy. It meant taking in various jobs even if the pay was low. I think at that point in my life, that was a good plan. Now that I’m not a fresh graduate and have more to offer this philosophy doesn’t work anymore.

If you’ve been working for several years already, hopefully you’ve garnered enough skill and experience to specialize in something – clients seek you and pay for your specific skill set. I say this without any arrogance, you should chose your projects and learn to say no. Have the courage to uplift and sustain your worth. This article from Creative Boom is a good read helping us filter clients and elevate your worth. It helped me remind myself of tasks I should do to have quality clients and quality work. It’s not just about securing better clients but the article also gives tips to be a better you.

You’ve done the work and the circus of the fresh grad syndrome. If you’ve graduated from that, and not just being supercilious, then you should really read the article above.
