Ending our photo walk at Bayleaf Intramuros – May 2013 Photo Walk

* Did you read the first part of this post? You can find it here.

It was part of our itinerary to eat somewhere good in Manila right after our dugyut tour. We timed our tour perfectly so that we could catch the sunset from Bayleaf Intramuros’ rooftop bar – the Sky Deck View Bar.

Rooftop bars have been around our in other countries for quite some time. When I went to Bangkok with Danix and Melissa a few years back, we made our splurge gimik at one of Bangkok’s rooftop bars – the Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar at the 61st (!) floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel. It is only now that the Philippines is catching up.

We excitedly took in the view, posed and took photos. Even though it was a humid summer day we were thankful we had spurts of wind.

You see the Intramuros Golf Course thus all the greenery. Do you see the beige buildings on the right? That’s the National Museum!

The Manila City Hall during the day and at night.

Hello Manila HS, we were just on our segways passing by that school earlier.

It was unfortunate that we didn’t catch a sunset because of the gloomy weather. The ambiance and food made up it. This was as good as we got.

There is a mix of tables, chairs and furniture that guests can lounge in.

Melon Shake (P110)
The Melon Shake tasted great for a melon shake but it pales in comparison to the other 2 creative shakes we ordered.

White Mango Slush (P130)
What makes a mango slush white? This one had a hint of lychee and milk complimenting the mango wonderfully. The White Mango Shake is a good choice for hot summer days.

Mixed Berry Smoothie (P130)
Sky Deck View Bar’s version comes with milk but I asked our server to have it removed. Even without milk, the Mixed Berry Smoothie was the champion for today. It was the best mix of berries on a sticky afternoon and the right blend of sweet and delicious which I will come back for.

Croque Senior (P295)
baguette, jamon serrano, provolone, roasted tomato, basil, roasted garlic

Shrimp Pasta (P400)
White shrimp, garlic, chilies, extra virgin olive oil, lemon, spaghetti

Margherita Pizza (P330)
tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh basil

Over-all, the dishes we ordered all tasted scrumptious. For hotel prices, they weren’t that bad. All 4 girls consumed everything and we were filled to the brim.

The churros of Bayleaf Hotel is a must try according to a lot of people. Our group couldn’t leave without trying it so we headed to the Cioccolata Churros Café where it is served located at the ground floor. Since it was after 7 PM, the café had a promotion wherein the muffins were 50% off, yay! We bought some as pasalubong for our families.

Brazo Cup (P35)
It tastes as sinful as it looks. I felt like I was downing sugar and it was clinging to my throat as it went down. Haha The Brazo Cup looked adorable but it was too sweet for my palette.

Pretzels (P35)
Their pretzels were on the tough side so I wouldn’t recommend them. They have other treats that will tickle your taste buds.

Blueberry Muffin
The blueberry spills out from this muffin and it would make for a superb breakfast fixture.

Original Churros (P95)
Churros with hot Spanish chocolate
I don’t shy away from churros baby! Their version is much sweeter and richer than Dulcinea’s version. It’s the kind of hot chocolate my family grew up with – hot choco from Taal! This is certified as fantastic for chocolate lovers. I like my churros a toasty so I requested them to leave it in the fryer a bit longer.

The café had a different vibe from the view deck but I loved both vibes. The café’s delicious food and relatively affordable prices made me wish I had a Bayleaf Hotel near me because I would love to hang out at Cioccolata Churros Café often. I imagine having catch up sessions with friends here and even business meetings.

A note of caution, we parked right in front of the café and unfortunately the car was hit with a golf ball. Thankfully, it just broke the sun visor. Bayleaf Hotel’s team looked for us, informed us about the incident and helped us through the whole process of contacting the Intramuros Golf Course and getting the visor fixed. Thank you to their team for the smooth dealing at a possibly stressful time.

The team even saved the golf ball and the broken pieces of the visor as evidence. Lesson from this? Park in the basement next time!

We enjoyed the ambiance, food and drinks at the Sky Deck View Bar immensely. I plan to go back hopefully with better weather to enjoy the experience much longer.
