Below par at Casa Nostra

Sunday, November 25, 2012

Before heading to Mitch’s exhibit, Berenice and I had to lunch in the area. There weren’t a lot of Pasong Tamo Extension only restaurants (side where Pablo was located on) thus we only had a handful of choices. After the recommendation of a friend, we picked Casa Nostra.

We were dressed very causally and when I stepped inside the restaurant, I felt somewhat under dressed. Casa Nostra doesn’t have a dress code but the interiors emanated old school charm. Based on the menu, Berenice was planning her second trip to Casa Nostra. I replied, “Let’s wait until we taste the food.” – foreshadowing of things to come.

Risotto alla Finanziera (P325)
Italian Arborio rice cooked with chicken, mushroom and Mascarpone cheese.

My dish was the first one to touch the table. I was disappointed with its color palette but I should have expected it based on the description. I don’t like saying flak but the risotto wasn’t spectacular. Berenice even commented that it seemed like they used regular rice and not Arborio rice.

Anatra di Ripieno (P375)
Half-moon duck ravioli in truffle cream sauce.

Things looked worse when the Anatra di Ripieno was served next. It tasted average, again nothing special.

When our food arrived, we were saddened. The free appetizer looked the best.

For the delicious description and the price, their presentation needed a lot of work. Our server also seemed irritable the whole time. I had higher expectations for Casa Nostra and unfortunately they weren’t met.
