Fill your appetite for design and food at The Room Upstairs
Tuesday, June 12, 2012
I hardly find myself in Makati.
It takes work, an errand or a planned gimik for me to head here. Last
month, I excitedly signed up for Heima’s
Design Discussion talk at the LRI Design Plaza. I had different
expectations for it which is why I’ve kept mum about it. Anyway, since I
was going to unchartered territory, I made a conscious decision to have
lunch in the area. I’ve heard a lot of good things about The Room
Upstairs and I hurriedly went to the restaurant.
The Room Upstairs is a hub for good
food, coffee and design. It had a relaxed grown up vibe, not to be
confused with an old vibe, I gravitated towards. This will sound mighty
weird; I know I’ve been an adult for years already but getting the adult
vibe (independent, responsible, mature) still makes me giggle like a
kid. Ironic right? The restaurant could very well make its way to being a
potential good brunch place and join my list.
Calamansi Mint Green Tea (P110)
I really wanted the Strawberry
Basil and Honey Iced Tea but it was unavailable.
Y’all know I’m a tea girl and the Calamansi Mint Green Tea is joy!
Tuyo Pesto (P160)

The portions of their pasta may
look average but the more you eat them, the more you realize there is
more pasta than you expected. When we were mixing our pastas, it was
such a joy to see smoke coming from the pasta – talk about one hot
plate! I enjoyed the mix of textures of the cheese, noodles and pesto.
Smoked Chorizo and Mushroom Tomato Sauce (P170)
Home-made smoked chorizo with sautéed shitake mushrooms, marinara and basil cream. Served with garlic bread.

Besides their hot and filling
factors, The Room Upstairs’ pasta is delish! The basil cream and
marinara proved to be the perfect partner for the salty goodness of the
smoked chorizo.
Y’all know I’m a sugar whore but I
was so full from lunch that I wasn’t able to have dessert. For the food
we devoured, it was money well spent. I imagine dishes tasting as
delectable and plated nicely as these to be priced higher. Thank you The
Room Upstairs for mixing my love for food and design in one roof.
