A love letter to Candid Coffee

Candid Coffee offers quality coffee without the snobbishness or intimidation some third wave coffee shops have. They have a breath of accessibility that makes me excited to learn more about coffee in an enjoyable way.

I’m such a fan of the brand that I’ve been recommending them to everyone who asks me. They offer inventive iced coffee aside from black coffee. How much do I love them? I’ve been to 3 branches already. Each location has branch exclusive drinks which is a good incentive to visit them all. Their coffee is strong which is something I like.

I’ve also been buying their coffee beans to use at home and it’s been a staple gift when I go oversees and for balikbayans coming home. Go and try their S’mores and Deathwish blends.

Plus points too for the brand’s makulit and fun personality – check out the description of their drinks and coffee beans when you purchase. The descriptions are witty and relatable. Lol

Milk Washed Ethiopian Latte (P250) – a Shang branch exclusive
A refined blend of Ethiopian Sidamo cold brew, strawberry marmalade, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, and rich full cream milk. This drink springs to life with a taste reminiscent of Meiji strawberry chocolate.
NGL, this shookt me. It’s nothing like I’ve ever tasted. It honestly had juice/tea vibe in an absolutely refreshing way. I could taste the berry notes and could still taste the coffee. I understand this flavor profile may not be for everyone but it’s definitely worth a try. The portioning was a bit bitin and it left me wanting more. I was tempted to order another one but wary of the caffeine content and wanted to sleep that night. lol

Cinnamon Toast Crunch (P190)
S’mores double ristretto, cereal milk, choco chips, cinnamon
One sip and it delivers its promise – it does taste like the famed cereal. I have a sweet tooth but this one bordered dessert like for me. Since I mentioned their coffee is a strong, this might fair for people who like their coffee milder but prefer a sweet drink too.
African Sunrise (P220)
Strawberry saws, double espresso, fresh milk, condensed milk
This tasted like a twist on the usual Spanish Latte. If the SL is your go-to drink, this could be the drink for you.

Dark Chocolate Mocha (P160)
Medj sossy 'cause we make our own chocolate ganache
The mocha used to be my go-to pre-pandemic but some cafes use chocolate syrup that tastes artificial at times. I love that Candid makes their own because if gives this version an edge on others.

Vietnamese Latte (P150)
Pure robusta na nilunod sa condensada
Vietnamese coffee is one of the things that made me love coffee. Candid’s version stays true to the original – excellent strong coffee with condensed milk. You can’t go wrong with this.

There are more drinks on their menu that I need (yes need) to try. Here are some of my favorites so far: Vietnamese Latte, Dark Chocolate Mocha, and Milk Washed Ethiopian Latte.
