2024 Manila Walk: Escolta (Part 3)

Thursday, March 14, 2024

Escolta is an area in Manila that is fighting hard to keep the historical gems and is transforming to a hub for creativity. As a Manila lover, Escolta is one of my happy places.

Since this was the tail end of our trip, we only visited the First United Building. It was the only thing our tired feet could muster to explore. It’s a gorgeous and well-preserved art deco building built in 1928.

The first-floor houses retail spaces Fred’s Revolution, The Den, and HUB: Make Lab. The latter is a home to numerous up and coming local brands and is a definite must. The other floors have offices as well.

Make the journey up and you will be surprised to find Baobab all the way at the fifth-floor. You will also find First Coworking community which provides a conducive work environment in the heart of chaotic Manila.

There are other notable places to visit in Escolta. Make sure to save this map from Hub: Make Lab to make the most of your Escolta walking tour.

The 2 easiest ways to get to Escolta are via:
1. The Pasig Ferry and get off the Escolta station which is across the Post Office.
2. Take the LRT-2 and alight at the Carriedo station. Escolta is a 5-minute walk, 300 meters away.

I took the second option because the Pasig Ferry was fully booked early on. The LRT + MRT route reminded me of my college commuter life.

I cannot wait to go back to Escolta and visit the museum and check out other buildings. First United Building offers tours occasionally. To know more, make sure to follow them on Facebook.
