Warm and bright B & P All-day Breakfast

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

They got me at “All-day breakfast”. I will say it over and over again; this is one food trend I truly love. I’ve been meaning to try B and P when it opened its doors in Mandaluyong in front of S and R Shaw Boulevard. The restaurant said I was taking too long so they decided to come closer to me and opened a branch in Ortigas. (I am kidding of course)

The interiors are a mix of wooden elements with pops of color and eggs. They have their own take on classic breakfast dishes like the Tapa, Eggs Benedict, Pancakes and Rosti to name a few.

Asian Caesar Salad (P195)
Organic romaine lettuce tossed in Tinapa dressing upped with salted egg
I’ve been eating vegetables more and more and this dish is a favorite! I loved that the dressing wasn’t too heavy or rich. Despite having just a few ingredients – each one melded perfectly to form one good salad. Don’t be fooled by the name though because it didn’t taste like the classic Caesar salad. It’s not exactly a bad thing because it is good on its own.

Burrito Omelette (P280)
Crispy bacon fried rice wrapped in scrambled eggs served with tomato salsa
I have high expectations when you add bacon to any dish. This hearty omelette packs a good flavorful punch and we liked it. However, it does make you think – “Can I do this at home?”

Mang Benedict’s (P285)
A different take on Eggs Benedict – malunggay pan de sal, chicken longganisa, poached egg and hollandaise
The malunggay taste in the pan de sal is subtle. If you’re not a malunggay fan, you’ll like this dish. Their version is a bit on the sweet side.

Don Malutong (P285)
Crispy pork belly, adobo rice, choice of egg and pickled relish
This is one of their best sellers. I found it too crispy that it resembled bacon rather than tasting like pork belly.

Primavera Tapa (P295)
Prime Angus beef tapa, adobo rice, choice of egg and pickled relish
B and P’s version was good but not exactly exceptional. I liked it though it didn’t wow me enough for it to land a place in my favorite tapa places of all time.

Bistek Bangus Belly (P195)
Pan fried bangus belly, adobo rice, choice of egg and pickled relish
The smokiness of the bangus was particularly strong in this dish and for that reason alone – it is a winner. It doesn’t scrimp on flavor.

French Toast (P190)
Thick cut brioche served with maple syrup
It’s a tad on the rich side but holy sweet tooth! B and P’s version will bring you to sugary heaven.

I’ve visited B and P several times and tried more than a dozen dishes. The thing is, it’s hit or miss. Some dishes will please your tummy but there are some that disappoint. Will this stop me from visiting again? No. I continue to explore their menu until I’ve tried everything I wanted. In fairness to them, the good dishes were pretty brilliant and I wouldn’t mind coming back to them. They have branches in Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and McKinley Hill.
