A delightful café in White Plains: Harina

Saturday, March 29, 2014

My family and I came from Christ the King Greenmeadows and my Dad asked to find a dinner spot in the area. Oh what timing, just a couple of days before that I was reading about Harina Artisan Bakery Café. Spot named it one of the best places with delicious bread. More than that, I’ve been reading good reviews about it online.

Harina’s interiors are consistent with their food, cozy and inviting. We quickly sat down and took our time to sift through their tempting menu. While waiting for our food, we gawked and eventually bought items from their bakery.

The café’s color palette appealed to me. You’ll find different areas to want to shoot at. I bet Harina looks mighty spectacular during the day with the sun pouring inside.

Harina’s Blooming Bread (P320)
For Sharing – Crusty pull apart Italian loaf filled with basil puree and an assortment of melted cheese. Served with a dip of balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil.
We were ravenous and this appetizer perfect. We demolished this massive piece of bread. Every morsel has a flavorful surprise as you go at it piece by piece. There’s ar reason why this is a bestseller, is fantastic.

Chicken Caesar Sandwich (P220)
Grilled Cajun chicken and lettuce in Caesar dressing topped with with poached egg, bacon and parmesan cheese on baguette.

Eggs Benedict (P225)
Ciabatta topped with Gruyere, Canadian ham, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce.

Creamy Bacon and Asparagus Pasta (P250)
Fettuccini in creamy sauce with bacon, asparagus, topped with poached egg.
It looks majorly heavy but the cream sauce is not as heavy as it looks. This pasta dish is a piquant rendition of a classic.

Breakfast Tart (P290)
Puff pastry shell filled with cream cheese, spinach, baked tomatoes, bacon and eggs.
It doesn’t look like it but this is one rich pastry. I did not expect my order to look like this. I thought the bacon and eggs were on the side so I was surprised at how heavy my tart turned out to be. Every ingredient contributes to the delicious wonder that is Harina’s breakfast tart. It was unlike anything I’ve ever tried.

We over ate. Our family didn’t expect the servings to be that generous and frankly, we had it coming. Dude, all carbs! What do you expect? Haha The Blooming Bread took us over the edge of over eating but good lord, it was worth it.

At the very least, I know what type of portions to expect when I go back so I won’t over eat again. Spot was right, Harina delivers delicious breads readily available in their bakery. More than that, their café is equally as divine.
