The Cake Club made me ecstatic
Thursday, March 15, 2012
The Cake Club by the Diamond Hotel has been around for a couple of years. I only have one very specific memory at the Diamond Hotel, it was the debut of my co-advocate Ice and it was there were I tasted one of the best chocolate cakes in my life. Having said that, I don’t know why I never trooped to the hotel again to have the glorious slice of cake. It still puzzles me as to why it took me this long to visit the Cake Club.
When we entered the Cake Club, there was only one family enjoying their dessert. We looked around the establishment and didn’t have any expectations. Since it was near closing time, the dessert choices were limited. We ordered whatever was available and everything was immaculate. I did not taste anything I did not love.
The prices run a bit high but let me tell you, everything that touched my lips was worth every peso. If they had a branch in Ortigas, this would be my go to let’s-hang-out-and-fatten-me up place. Mwahahaha
Ok...I’m trying to calm down. I just love this place to bits. Oh and if you visit their Facebook Page, they have a flier you can print to get 20% discount until April 15!

Hediard Blend Tea (P200 per pot)
I had some space for dessert left but my tummy needed help; it needed tea! The Hediard tea was very aromatic and went down my throat smoothly; it wasn’t at all bitter. I would like to go and try their other variants next time. In the next couple of months, the Cake Club will be selling the Hediard tea for takeout.

Chef Robert Mempin made our hotel President’s dream come true when he made a version of the ubiquitous buko pie.
Vanessa (P240)
Our GM’s favorite! Made of pistachio macaroons and fresh strawberries.
I don’t normally pick pistachio for dessert but it was one of the 3 cakes left. Strawberry on the other hand is part of my top 7 go to dessert flavors. Put these two together with the creative geniuses of the Diamond Hotel and you have a winning combo. The 2 flavors were just absolutely wonderful together. The Vanessa was light on the tummy but heavy on taste.

Chef Daniel Back’s white chocolate raspberry cheesecake is the first sugarless cake to win our hearts!
Again, I’m not the biggest fan of cheesecake but OMG their cheesecake was truly awesome. It wasn’t too sweet or too sour – it was just perfect. Just perfect I tell you.
Chocolate Cake Ice Cream (P150 for 2 scoops)
The best thing I tried? The ICE CREAM!!! Think of your favorite cookie dough ice cream. Are you thinking about it? Instead of cookie dough, imagine its Diamond Hotel’s famous chocolate cake. Now doesn’t that make you freak out in happiness? That’s how I felt while savoring it. This clump of wonderfulness doesn’t taste like you smushed ice cream and cake together – it was the ideal marriage. Seriously. It was sheer magnificence. Hands down, it quickly climbed to my number 2 spot of best ice cream in Manila. Pardon the overzealous reaction; this is what happens when you combine my 2 loves = chocolate and ice cream.
