High Expectations at Lu Restaurant

Friday, August 31, 2012

Lu has been around for several years but it was my first time to visit it last month. Owee and I had a late birthday celebration for Blonde Fish and we wanted to spoil ourselves by picking a restaurant that had good food at a premium price. Lu eventually won us over based on their reviews.

We had a late lunch on a weekday so the vibe was relaxed and a couple of tables were empty. It was the atmosphere I had envisioned for the lunch. Service was spot on, the staff were polite and knew their menu extremely well. The staff would give recommendations for add-ons to our orders and would check up on us from time to time.

Alexandria Falafel Salad (P275)
Egyptian Falafel & Mesclun Greens with and Herbed Yoghurt Dressing.
Owee insisted on having some veggies in this meal and I actually felt the same way. I really loved this salad. Everything in the bowl worked together to make me happy.

Classic Beef Wellington (P850)
Pastry wrapped Beef Medallions and Mushroom Duxelle. Served with Shiraz Reduction, Baby Carrots and Mashed Potatoes.
I'm a beef lover but I don't really like the classic wellington. Nonetheless, I tried it and it was chewy. For wellington standards I think that's considered good but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Sea Bass Darne, Pea Risotto (P898)
Broiled Darne of Sea Bass served with Pea Risotto, Chablis Lemon Herb Butter.
The carnivore orders seafood! I have a soft spot for sea bass or salmon and risotto. Having said all that, it is but natural for me to order this dish.  The risotto dripped butter which is technically bad for your arteries but it was heaven for me during that meal. If you are on a diet, STAY AWAY FROM THIS! Hahaha

This just looked to beautiful to drink.

We actually stayed a late in Lu and they were about to close! The waited informed us in such a sweet way that they were closing we felt guilty for holding them up. In a nutshell Lu has marvellous ambiance and exceptional service but for the price we paid for (we spent almost P2500 for 2 people!), I find the place too pricey. I’ve eaten at more expensive places that have wowed my taste buds as well as less expensive places that were able to do the same.

That being said, I would still recommend trying out Lu at least once in your life. You might love Lu more than I did.
