Home cooked Italian at Buon Giorno

Thursday, July 07, 2011

You no longer have to troop all the way to the south to have your fill of Tagaytay’s Buon Giorno! All you got to do is head to Ortigas! Buon Giorno opened a second branch at the Rockwell Business Center next to Medical City. I haven’t tried the Tagaytay branch so I can’t compare if the Ortigas branch delivers like the original. I can say this, it delivers period.

We celebrated my Dad’s birthday here on a Tuesday night and the place wasn’t packed. It served as a good backdrop for a family dinner.

Trio of Crostini (P218)
Thin slices of roasted bread served with pesto, chicken liver pate and mushroom dip.

I only tried the pesto and it was average. I loved the one of Galileo Enoteca more. Eeeeppp…Sorry!

Brushetta (P180)
Tomatoes, mozzarella and basil on garlic-olive toast.

This was an average tasting Brushetta, nothing mind blowing but yummy nonetheless.

New York Pizza (P295)
Assorted meat, bell peppers and cheese topping on a crisp crusty dough.

This pizza was heavy, literally! Haha One slice and you can taste the overflowing goodness.

Spaghetti Aglio E Olio (P272)
Buon Giorno’s special spaghetti pasta with olive and anchovies.

It may look plain but this plate of pasta was drenched in flavor.

Risotto Con Salsicce E Cippole Arrostite (P302)
Generous cuts of Italian sausage cooked together with roasted onions make this rice dish satisfying.

Wagyu Steak (P1000++)
I forgot the exact price, sorry! The steak came with pumpkin soup and a molten chocolate cake. This was the star of the night. This dish made me forgot how good the other dishes tasted. More than the softness of the wagyu, the herbs and seasoning was uniquely Buon Giorno and downright scrumptious. If they had this seasoning on a regular meat, I’d still eat it!

The molten chocolate cake was also drool worthy. It was fudgy and sweet, just the way I like it.

Buon Giorno deserves several visits whether you’re in Rockwell Business Center or Tagaytay. Coupled with great food and warm service, I will come back for more.
